Discharge Planning with XPS

With the XPS client, you can plan the discharge of inbound vessels and assign containers to specific yard positions (slots) or to the yard in general (blocks, allocation groups, or logical blocks for later planning).

Before you start discharge planning, make sure you perform the discharge planning prerequisites (on page 1).

The exact process of discharge planning that you use depends on your site's operation. Typically, however, it involves the following tasks:

  1. Import (if required) and review (on page 1) the inbound stowage

  1. Open the vessel to display and assess the inbound stowage (on page 1)

  2. Plan the discharge containers (on page 1)

If your operation uses predefined work patterns (PWP), as required with the Quay Commander option, see the manual Navis N4: Vessel Administrator and User Guide. PWP affect how planned containers are sequenced from the vessel and may render some of the discharge planning tasks unnecessary.

  1. Prevent changes to planned moves by locking them, confirming them, or making them definite

  2. Review work queues (on page 1)

  3. Issue work instructions (on page 1)

  4. Print and distribute discharge reports to yard personnel

  5. Complete the moves (on page 1)

Depending on your operation and XPS configuration, you may be required to reconcile the actual moves with your plans (on page 1) and complete the moves in the XPS client. This process updates the N4 system with the new container locations.

For more information about placing containers in the yard, see the manual Navis N4: Yard Administrator and User Guide. For more information on the tools and techniques involved in vessel planning, see the manual Navis N4: Basics.
